Outram Park MRT is an underground MRT interchange station found in the North-East and East-West Line on the Outram and Bukit Merah, Singapore. The station is very close to Singapore General Hospital. Outram Park MRT interchange station is being planned to be a three-line interchange by 2021. It will be joined by Marina Bay MRT and Dhoby Ghaut MRT, when the third Stage opens, Thomson-East Coast. The station got its name Outram Park from the nearby road. Outram MRT Station is located near to One Pearl Bank that is by Capitaland which is located at Silat Avenue.
Outram MRT Station Bukit Merah
The station isn’t placed entirely in Outram. The Exits G and F in the North East part of the station are found in the East part of Bukit Merah. The section serves the Everton Park as well as Singapore General Hospital. While the East-West section of the station can be accessed from normal ground level in Outram, it serves the south of Chinatown, Peoples Park, and Pearl’s Hill. However, the current Chinatown station is located in Chinatown. Before it was was the nearest MRT station in Chinatown but the near North East Line has been built.
Outram MRT Station Near to Tanjong Pagar
When Outram Park MRT interchange was being built, the land was acquired from Outram Primary school and Outram Prison. The station construction work began in 1984. The contract 109 referring to a section from Tiong Bahru to Tanjong Pagar and Outram Park station was awarded Obayashi Joint Venture to construct. The contractors managed to complete the tunnel from Tiong Bahru to Outram Park in September 1984.
Outram MRT Station Harbour Front Centre
The initial planning stages of the North Line in 1980s and early 1990s had planned it to serve as the south line terminus. However, in 1993, LTA found the need to make an extension to the NEL up to HarbourFront station, former WTC Station. The extension was made after it was noted that many people frequented the WTC the current HarbourFront Centre. The station later redeveloped in 2000 – 2003 as well as Sentosa Island.
The EWL station upgrade was fully complete by 12 October 2002. The construction had started in September 2000 as the lift access to the station was not functioning. The lift operates from the first level to basement 2 and basement 1. However, it was enlarged when the NEL was opened on 20th June 2003. Outram Park MRT interchange was a temporary terminus during the early closures from Pasir Ris with late openings as well as full closures done from 8th to 31st December 2017. The station is expected to undergo a heavy renovation during the TEC MRT Line construction by 2020. The government has already taken possession of open space near Outram Prison and Pearl Centre.
